How to Have the Perfect Sunday

I always struggle with how to spend the last day of the weekend. Do I make the most of it by putting on a bra and actually leaving the house, or do I stay in my elastic-waist pajama pants and binge watch The Great British Baking Show? Either way it’s a win-win situation. Spend your Sunday the best way you know how, or take a few of my nonprofessional tips on how to have the perfect Sunday.

At-home spa night

Sunday nights are the perfect excuse to take an hour or two and pamper yourself before the start of a new week. It’s also a good time to put your phone away, recharge your mind (and thumbs), and forget about all the bullshit that may be going on in the world.

Spa nights are all about ~setting the mood.~ Light a few candles, turn the lights out, and get that bath water running. I like to pull my hair back and lather on a face mask. Clinique’s Turnaround Revitalizing Instant Facial does exactly what it sounds like. It claims to make the skin more fresh and revitalized, and it pretty much does the next morning. It has a bit of a gritty texture, but not enough to make it a scrub. All in all, it’s a good choice to take on an early Monday morning. After the bubble bath, wipe off your face mask of choice and give your under eyes some love with an overnight creme. I really like Origins Eye Doctor.

Make a to-do list for the week

It may seem daunting to write down everything you have to do for the next seven days, but isn’t that better than forgetting about a doctor’s appointment again? Avoid forgotten plans and make a bulleted list of future daily activities. I’ve found it helpful to write down things I would like to accomplish or start working on that I don’t necessarily have to do, like organizing my bathroom cabinets (really living it up over here). Nothing feels better than physically marking off a to-do list. It’s the little things in life.

Gallery hop with friends

If you do want to venture out of the house, grab a friend and check out local boutiques and galleries you’ve been meaning to visit. Get inspiration for new room decor while sipping on a chai tea latte. I would highly recommend the iced version from Vint on Frankfort Avenue. Make friends with shop owners – you never know who and what you will have in common. The best part of the whole experience is supporting local businesses.

Go hiking

Another great way to clear your mind before the start of a new week is to get some fresh air on a hike. This could mean an actual hike in a state park or a few laps around a local park. Whatever you have nearby, make use of it. It’s important to give yourself alone time where you can reflect on what’s been going on in life. And if you’re lucky there will be a winery across the street to reward yourself on the way out. Self-care feels through the roof!

Eat whatever you want

We all know that “diets” start again on Monday. What I would rather refer to as eating healthy, sometimes goes out the window on weekends, especially Sundays. Indulge in a stack of pancakes if you feel like making it out of bed before brunch ends. Finish off that pint of Ben and Jerry’s that how somehow made it to the end of the week in your freezer (the Strawberry Cheesecake flavor never lasts long in mine). TREAT. YO. SELF.

What’s your favorite skincare mask to use on a Sunday? There’s just something that makes you feel like you’ve got your life together when you wear a mask, right?
