3 New Fall Wardrobe Staples

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. There’s just something about the crisp in the air and pumpkins everywhere that put a smile on my face every time I step foot outside. Unfortunately, Louisville weather is pretty unpredictable. It’s officially October and it’s still in the 80s here. Come on!

We’ll get there, eventually…soon I hope.

Fall fashion is my bread and butter. I’ll take sweaters and boots over shorts and a tank any day. Fall is ideal for playing with fashion because you can be much more versatile with your look than with summer pieces.

When it came time to look at my fall pieces this year, there were a few key items missing I knew I wanted to incorporate. I wanted to find something with tortoise shell buttons. I wanted a fun top to wear on date nights that had a subtle fall color scheme print. And last, but certainly not least, I wanted a plaid blazer. I think blazers can instantly fancy up an outfit, while still looking effortless. They never go out of style and act as a great layering piece.

This gray, black, and white plaid blazer from Target is my favorite piece of clothing I’ve bought this year. It gives me real 90s boss babe vibes. It’s from their A New Day range at such a reasonable price of $34.99. They call it the ‘boyfriend blazer’ for good reason -it fits just like your boyfriend’s oversized jacket. It’s loose enough to give it a casual feel, while also coming in at the waist a bit to give you some shape.

I like to dress it down with a band t-shirt and these straight leg raw hem jeans from Old Navy. I’ve been really into the straight leg look the past year, but always find them to be extremely too high waisted for my short torso and bigger bust. I find high waisted jeans make me look awkwardly proportioned, but this pair hit just above the belly button. WIN!

Tortoise shell material has been big this year in all kinds of variety – from buttons, to hoop earrings, to glasses (which I hope never ends). I picked up this black asymmetrical cotton skirt by New Look from ASOS with perfectly placed tortoise shell buttons. This skirt that can be worn all year round, but to me it screams fall. Pair it with tights and ankle boots, or knee high boots and a chunky sweater for an instant 60s look. I bought it in a size 6 because it sits at your true waist, but it would be more comfortable in an 8. The buttons all the way down make it a little trickier to get over your hips as opposed to a high waisted skirt without restrictions.

You’ll quickly learn that I love black and find it hard not to buy everything in black. So this autumn-colored floral top is a compromise on that front. It’s got colors I normally wouldn’t wear, but in a safe way, and fits my love for all things fall into one great piece. It was a little more than I would usually spend, but I hope to get lots of wear out of it on nights out. This wrap floral blouse from ASOS fits loosely with a long tie at the front. It also sits just above my mid-rise black jeans, so any pants lower than that rise and it will look like a crop top. It’s fairly low cut as well, so if you’re not into that look than this might not be the best fit for you. However, it does have enough material to adjust with a safety pin if you’d like.

What’s on your fall wardrobe wish list? I’d love to know! Leave me your suggestions in the comments and you might just see it on the blog soon.
